High Top Fade haircut for black men with curly hair
The High Top Fade haircut is a black men’s haircut and curly hairstyle that was popular in the 1980s among the African American community. The High Top Fade haircut has the hair flat at the top and then rapidly faded in length at the sides and back of the head until the hair is at a near shaved length. The High Top Fade haircut is a men’s haircut for kinky curly hair.
How to do a High Top Fade haircut
The top of the head should be between 1 to 4 inches in length, which, with curly kinky hair, leaves the hair standing upright and perpendicular to the floor. Taking advantage of this perpendicular position of the hair, you then use a hair clipper to flatten the ends of the erected kinks to form a flat surface.
The sides and back of the head are done with no guard attached to a hair clipper except for a very narrow band of hair, about 1 inch in width, going from temple to temple. In this narrow band of hair, the kinky curly hair is tapered rapidly from the length it has on the top of the head (i.e. any length you choose between 1 to 4 inches) all the way down to the near shaved length that the sides and back of the head have through having buzzed the hair with a hair clipper with no guard attached. You want to perform an extremely rapid taper in length or, as it is also known, a fade haircut.
